The renovations are breathtaking. Broad srtokes of navy and white draws a distinction against the natural woods. Yachts that bob gently in their slips are steps away from your table. A cuisine of fresh, local menu items and signature mix of ingredients is generating buzz. This is the Montauk Yacht Club, 2.0.
The long communal table in the center of the dining room glowing with candles can stop you in your tracks. Vast windows with water views wrap around the perimeter, a chandelier of what appears to be shimmering silver dollars hovers over the massive bar known as the Barracuda Bar. The Farmhouse Room complete with a grand fireplace and doors that open to the beach is the ultimate wedding location. Dining at the Montauk Yacht Club underscores how the refreshed space is an ideal complement to Chef Robbin Haas’s impressive cuisine.
A mini loaf of warmed, sweet bread with large salt crystals embedded in the crust was irresistible. Next to arrive were the chilled, fresh Oysters, flanked by a trio of Cucumber Wasabi Ice, Fresh Grated Horseradish and Mignonette Sauce. The Lobster Bisque with Crème Fraiche and Maine Lobster was as velvety as it sounds. Service was gracious as our waiter Terrance was both attentive and adept at pacing our meal.
The Tempura Tuna was seared rare with a crispy border or Tempura batter, propped up over crispy noodles and colorful summer vegetables, glazed in black bean vinaigrette. The tender Roquefort Crusted Filet Mignon encircled by crisp asparagus on a pillow of potato puree was opulent. The Gulf Coast Kitchen Menu is diverse and lively, with well-chosen dishes like Hudson Valley Moulard Duck, Poached Butter Lobster, Linguine and Cockles and the impressively health conscious Gluten Free Corn Pasta with vegetables and tofu.
Desserts are nostalgic of childhood with a twist; Deep Dish Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Crème Brulee and Warm Apple Tarte Tatin with Ginger Caramel. Our choice of milk and dark chocolate cake with chocolate gelato and plump blueberries, strawberries and blackberries was an indulgent finish.
Dining at The Gulf Coast Kitchen in the Montauk Yacht Club is a transporting experience, a stunning escape from the frantic summer days and rush to unwind. For an evening, a weekend or a summer, the Montauk Yacht Club is a picturesque setting to relax and dine in style. The most challenging task you will face is zigzagging through the brilliant choices offered by Chef Haas to select your meal.
