Happy New Year to one and all! I hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday season. I would like to use this New Year’s issue to personally thank the community of Montauk and all the supporters of the Montauk Fire Department. I can’t tell you how proud I am to have led this tremendous group of men and women during 2017. I can’t say enough about their support for me and for the community at large. As I mentioned recently at our annual Swearing In Ceremony, for me, the most joyous part of the Chief’s job is hearing from members of our community how we, the Montauk Fire Department, helped them in some way. I am so proud of that, and I want to thank the Officers, and men and women of our Department for making this happen.
2017 had a very busy finish at the Montauk Fire Department. On Sunday, December 3rd we co-hosted, with the Montauk Point Lions Club, our annual Senior Citizens Holiday Dinner. This has become a very popular event for our Seniors in Montauk, and, as always, was well attended. Everyone enjoyed the great meal, a few cocktails, holiday companionship and singing. Besides the festivities at the Fire House that day, holiday meals were delivered to peoples’ homes if they couldn’t make it to the party. I am proud that we have been a part of this dinner for so many years. Please enjoy some of the photographs of the dinner provided by Honorary Chief Rich Lewin.
Another annual event brought Santa Claus to the Montauk Fire Department on Sunday, December 17th. It is always a lot of fun to get all the children, along with their parents and grandparents to come to the Fire Department to get into the holiday spirit with Santa. There were plenty of games and toys for the kids, and plenty of cakes, cookies and candies for everyone. I want to thank everyone who helped out that day. Again, please enjoy some of the photos provided by Rich Lewin.
Lastly, as I mentioned earlier, we had our annual Organizational Meeting and Swearing In of Officers Ceremony at the Fire House on January 1, 2018. The first item on the agenda was the swearing in of newly elected Commissioner, James Wright. Jim was sworn in by Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners Joseph Dryer. Following that, all Officers of the Montauk Fire Department, the Ladies Auxiliary, and the Junior Fire Department were sworn in by Commissioner Richard Schoen. The Officers for the Montauk Fire Department for 2018 are listed below. Good luck to all, and I look forward to working with you in 2018. As always, please enjoy Rich Lewin’s photos of our Swearing In.
