We are movie buffs and have watched hundreds of them over the years. Some of them classics, others blockbusters, foreign, independent or what is referred to as “sleepers”. We enjoy them all! Now with the 2018 Hampton International Film Festival (HIFF) coming again to the Hamptons over Columbus Day weekend, we’ll have more films to add to our list!
Have you ever stopped to think about the catch phrases or scenes from a movie that has stayed with you for years after you saw the film? Who can forget that shower scene in Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho? I didn’t want to take a shower when I was alone in the house for years after that! Then we had the summer thriller, Jaws, which put a damper on ocean swimming for thousands of viewers after it was released. As for myself, someone that was quite comfortable enjoying the gorgeous ocean waves, I never went out deeper than waist high after seeing the movie. Still don’t.
I’m sure many readers have films that have stayed with them over the years that they embrace for personal reasons or just the thrill of the scene or the pleasure of watching a favorite performer. Test your memory and see how many of these famous film quotes you can identify which movie it was came from. Extra points if you can name the lead actors, too!
1. I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse.
2. Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn.
3. I’ll have what she’s having.
4. Life is like a box of chocolates.
5. Here’s looking at you kid.
