Spring is finally here, and is a welcome sight after this very cold winter. So now it’s time to start getting ready for the 2025 fishing season out here in Montauk!
For hundreds of years Montauk has been a fishing destination. The Native Americans would come from as far as what is known now as Connecticut and Rhode Island to fight the Montauket Indians for the immense amount of bounty the East End of Long Island had to offer. There are not many places where you can go out the inlet and catch seven different species of fish. That’s not even mentioning the Lobster, Clams, Mussels, Crabs, and Whelks.

In the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s there would literally be hundreds of people walking the docks in the afternoon to see the boats come in with their catches. Fishermen from the boats that came in would scrutinize each boats catch, so maybe next time they would try the boat with the best catch for that day! Families with their children were in great numbers checking out all the boats and their catches. They could actually afford a week’s stay in Montauk, going out to eat at the Mom & Pop restaurants that provided good food at reasonable prices. People would come to Montauk to escape the bustle of the city and its boroughs, to experience the slower pace, the beautiful environment, the fantastic fishing, the ambience of a small historical fishing village with a lot of unique history dating back hundreds of years.
Montauk is a rare jewel, so why try to change what is already perfect. Outsiders come here trying to re-invent the wheel, but the wheel isn’t broken. The beauty of Montauk is its simplicity, that’s what Montauk is all about.
Regulations are not out as of yet, but as soon as they become available we will post them. Striped Bass regulations will remain the same for 2025, that’s what we have so far. Both inshore and offshore fishing has been off the charts the past 3 years, looking forward to more of the same!!
