HAMPTONS DOC FEST IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTHAMPTON ARTS CENTER CELEBRATES EARTH DAY WITH DOCS EQUINOX, APRIL 25-27: A THREE-DAY PROGRAM OF RECEPTIONS, THREE ENVIRONMENTAL FILMS, Q&As, and AN “EARTH CENTRAL” HUB, CENTERED ON THE THEME OF “DEEP ROOTS: OUR CONNECTION TO TREES, WOODLANDS, FORESTS”

Hamptons Doc Fest, in partnership with the Southampton Arts Center, welcomes spring by kicking off Earth Day Week with its annual Docs Equinox celebration that this year revolves around the theme of “Deep Roots: Our Connection to Trees, Woodlands, Forests.”

The weekend includes three days of programming at Southampton Arts Center on April 25-27 that features food and wine receptions on Friday and Saturday at 5:30 p.m. with “Earth Central” information hubs composed of tree-related environmental groups, and a Sunday coffee reception at 11 a.m., each reception followed by a documentary film.

On Friday, April 25, which is Arbor Day, after the cocktail reception and Earth Central Hub from 5:30-7 p.m., the film presented at 7 p.m. is “Giants Rising: The Secrets and Superpowers of the Redwoods” (80 min.), directed by Lisa Landers.

The Saturday, April 26, film at 7 p.m. is “Call of the Forest: The Forgotten Wisdom of Trees” (82 min.) directed by Jeffrey McKay.

On Sunday, April 27, after the coffee reception at 11 a.m., Tucker Marder, founder of the Folly Tree Arboretum in Springs, East Hampton, will give a keynote at 11:30 a.m., followed by the 12 noon film “Fungi: The Web of Life” (41 min.), directed by Joseph Nizeti, co-directed by Gisela Kaufmann and Paul Phelan.

Tickets and information for the Docs Equinox screenings are available at   www.hamptonsdocfest.com and www.southamptonartscenter.org. Tickets each day are $20, $15 for SAC members, and $10 for students and children. Also available is a 3-day pass for $50, $40 for SAC members. The Southampton Arts Center is located at 25 Jobs Lane.
