Author Ruth Ware
I first read The Woman in Cabin 10 -a Crime Thriller by Ruth Ware, about eight years ago. Someone in my book club had chosen it, and we all enjoyed the mystery and suspense in her writing. The story features a travel journalist that takes a luxury boutique cruise ship to the Northern Lights. When she is woken in the middle of the night by screams, she rushes to her window to see a body thrown overboard from the next-door cabin. But according to ship records, no-one ever checked into that cabin, and no passengers are missing from the boat. Trying to use this trip to recover from a traumatic break-in she is exhausted and emotional, and now has to face the fact that she may have dreamed or misinterpreted the event, or that she may now be trapped on a boat with a murderer…
Recently someone recommended another of her books, The Lying Game. Four friends who spent time at boarding school in Salten seventeen years earlier are forever bound by the events of that time. And when three of the girls, in the small hours of the morning, receive a text: “I need you”, from the only friend who remained near the school, they leave their homes, jobs, and/or families and go to her. But although they had made one promise, to always be truthful with each other, someone isn’t telling the truth! Now the four best friends who used to play the Lying Game, competing to convince people of outrageous stories, after seventeen years of hiding their truth, are dealing with something terrible that has been found on the beach. The friends’ darkest secret is about to come to light…
Switching seamlessly from past to present, Ruth Ware weaves their stories with twist and turns, a few red herrings and intrigue. Enjoying her style, I decided to look into another of her books. When I saw that her most recent Crime Thriller-ZERO DAYS- was being released this summer I got on the waiting list. It was worth the wait; I find her easy to read and the story lines quite enjoyable
In Zero Days, the main characters, Jack and her husband Gabe, are hired by companies to break into buildings and hack security systems; they are the best penetration specialists in the business. But after a routine assignment goes horribly wrong, Jack arrives home to find her husband dead. When Jack becomes the only focus of the police investigation, it’s time for her to disappear and figure out the truth. She’s in a race against time to find her husband’s killer and clear her name, all while trying to stay alive.
