Aurelia was known to many around Montauk as happy, upbeat, smiling, always giving a wave as you drove past while she was walking, and eager to meet friends to share a cocktail and hear music at some of her favorite places around town.
The unexpected passing of her husband Michael on April 2, 2021 hit Aurelia hard, yet she was working through her grief with the support of her son Chris, and her friends and family. Almost 3 years to the day, at the age of 70, Aurelia also passed away unexpectedly. Aurelia grew up in East Meadow, NY, the daughter of George and Leora Schaffer, wife to Michael Daddura, loving mother of Christopher Daddura, and sister to Carol and Laurel.
She and Michael were married on July 16, 1977, settling in Huntington Station. Eventually, they were able to realize their dream by buying property and building their second home in Montauk. After raising her son in Huntington, while working as a Contracts Manager for BAE Systems, she and Michael retired to Montauk for their golden years.
Aurelia was a religious and charitable woman. She loved walking – insisting on walking 12 miles a day rain or shine. Walking all over town, she carried treats to give all the dogs she met along the way. She also loved dancing and drinking French martinis everywhere she went. Even if there wasn’t a dance floor, she would create one and dance!
“Seeing how many people really cared about my mom, and the support everyone has offered me has been really moving, a real beacon of light in these challenging days,” mentioned Chris. “A memorial night for Aurelia will be held in Montauk, at Tauk @ Trails End, on May 10th starting at 6pm. It is open to all who loved her.”
If you’d like to make a donation in her memory, Chris mentioned that she would appreciate it going to Little Shelter Animal Rescue in Huntington, LiveOn NY, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
