Stage 4 at the New World Stages on 50th street is the current home for its long-awaited first-ever arrival in NY. It’s been voted “Best Comedy of the Year” and “Best Play of the Year” many times over; this traveling show never disappoints!
When you arrive, don’t wait too long to get to your seats because the pre-show fun and antics entertains the audience leaving them laughing before a word is uttered. The madness erupts at your not-so-typical New York hair salon with not so typical technicians, when suddenly the old lady upstairs gets mysteriously murdered. With timely jokes hitting topics from politics to sexual conduct it’s like being part of a stand up – improv show where everyone’s dying to know WHODUNIT? At one point, the audience begins combing through the clues and questioning the suspects; the actor’s responses to the interaction with the audience is instantaneous, quick witted, and hysterical.
You need to see it and decide for yourself- Who Done It? The exaggerated stereotypical gay haircutter Tony- played by Jordan Ahnquist– whose quick humor even makes the rest of the cast laugh. The seemingly ditzy Barbara DeMarco- played by Jennifer Ellis– whose NY accent and cleavage with her tough demeanor makes you question her motives. Eddie Lawrence- played by Jeremy Kushnier– an unsuspecting customer who happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time…or is he? Or could it be the high society Mrs. Shubert– played by Lynne Wintersteller– who came in for a blow-out and can’t imagine how they could detain her from her busy life.
Patrick Noonan as NYC Police Officer Nick O’Brien conducts a comprehensive investigation despite his less than adept young sidekick Officer Mike Thomas- played by Adam Gerber– and the less than innocent cast of suspects. Put them altogether in one hair salon and one never knows what will happen.
Shear Madness gives the audience an opportunity to forget about everything and get fully involved in this hysterical comedic mystery. It’s worth a trip! The Theater is nestled between bustling Times Square and trendy Hell’s Kitchen, with an outdoor square offering dining options and outdoor seating. New World Stages is the renowned theatrical complex which has served as the home of Tony-Award-winning, Guinness-Record-setting, and Pulitzer-Prize-earning shows. The five stages are centered on an expansive common lobby where you can mingle with a cocktail before a show and enjoy their art gallery.
