Finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel from this horrific winter. The water temperature is slowly rising, but still very cool for this time of year.
Porgy, Sea Bass, and Fluke will be on the move. Striped Bass are starting to move east from the Hudson and up the coast from the Chesapeake. There has been some good sign back west, so it’s just a matter of time before they make their appearance. Large schools of Bunker are showing in western and middle Long Island Sound, and that as well is a good sign!
Fluke season opened on the 17th and there has been some activity on the south side under the guns and by the radar already. Try to fish the slopes and banks, because these fish are on the move and the water is still on the cool side. Might want to try double hook rigs to improve your odds, during the early season!
As far as the Black Sea Bass regulations, the jury is still out, we are still waiting for final decision. It’s hard to imagine that it is such a problem, the Black Sea Bass have been on the up-swing for the past 3 years. The problem lies at the inaccuracy of obtaining factual data, instead they use estimations and proposals.
Keep checking with the N.Y.D.E.C. and your local fishing marinas.
This year the Blessing of the Fleet will be on June 14th. It’s a great way to start off the season, and besides, we can never get enough blessings in this industry!!
Wishing everyone as usual, a Healthy, Safe, and Fun Fishing season!
Tight Lines,
