Welcome to this month’s edition of Montauk Fire Department Corner. We hope that everyone has been enjoying the wonderful fall weather we have been experiencing and had an enjoyable and safe Halloween.
It is with deep regret that we have learned of the untimely passing of Danny Shields. Dan is an Ex-Chief, Commissioner, and forty-four-year member of the Amagansett Fire Department. He has been a friend and colleague in the firematics world on the Eastern end of Long Island for many years. The thoughts and prayers of the Officers, men and women of the Montauk Fire Department are with the Shields family and our brothers and sisters of the Amagansett Fire
Department. He will be sorely missed.
On Tuesday, September 20th the Montauk Fire Department hosted its annual blood drive at the firehouse. As always, Fireman Jon Forsberg the chairperson of the event did a fantastic job for this extremely important and worthwhile cause. A shout out and big thank you to Sammy Joyce of Sammy’s restaurant who provided a pasta dinner for anyone who donated blood.
On Friday, September 30th the Montauk Fire Department held it annual Department Inspection Dinner at Gosman’s Restaurant. It was the first Inspection Dinner since the pandemic and, as you can imagine, it was well attended. It was a fantastic event with great food, music and esprit de corps celebrated by the membership and their guests. Chief Scott Snow, and Assistant Chiefs Glogg and Joyce had their collective hands full announcing the winners of the various Department awards. Additionally, a highlight of the night was the awarding of years in service pins and mementos to many of the assembled firefighters including the commemoration of several fifty plus year members and particularly to firefighter Ron Paon who has sixty-five years of active service. Please enjoy the attached photos.
Thank you for joining us for this month’s edition of the Montauk Fire Department Corner. Enjoy the rest of this beautiful fall weather and have a fun and safe Thanksgiving holiday.
See you next month.
