Another fine Sunday afternoon program was held at the Montauk library with the appearance of Janice Friedman, jazz vocalist, pianist and composer. After an introduction by Carolyn Balducci, Adult Program Coordinator, the program began. It started with a new original jazz musical, Salt Suite, created by Friedman and narrated by her husband, David Prager. As described in the library’s program handout, Salt Suite has been in development for at least a decade and is somewhat autobiographical, with reference of 60’s and 70’s pop culture. The melodies were written in the 80’s and 90’s and reflect life experiences at that time.
Following the 40 minute presentation of Salt Suite, Ms. Friedman continued to entertain by taking requests from the audience. Simply amazing that no matter the request, the music and often the lyrics to the songs came flowing forth in a lively and wonderful cabaret style performance. The selections included Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Don’t Rain on my Parade, That Old Black Magic, Pennies from Heaven and You’re So Vain, to name some of the highlights of the concert.

The Montauk Library is celebrating 40 years and is continually adding new and exciting programs to its itinerary. In late fall the library will be closed for extensive renovations and to build its new addition. It is expected to be closed for about eight or nine months until the construction is completed.
