The Montauk Village Association (MVA) hosted its 58th Annual Greenery Scenery Party at the beautiful Gurney’s Star Island Resort & Marina on Friday evening, August 9. The honorees were Aida Turturro and Tom Genovese who received a plaque of appreciation for their contribution to the community which was presented by East Hampton Town Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc, together with Councilwoman Sylvia Oberby, EH Town Board David Lys and Lenny Defina.
The party was well attended by more than 200 patrons and VIP’s under a huge white tent elegantly adorned with twinkling yellow lights, cluster of gold and white balloons, and tall vases full of white hydrangea flowers as centerpieces on top of white linen covered round tables. The crowd danced to the music of That Motown Band whose talents were generously donated by American Portfolios. Cocktails were served throughout the night with delicious hors d’oeuvres, assorted cheeses, fruits, pork, roast beef and pasta buffet style, topped with “out of this world” chocolate fudge cake and chocolate chip cookies served with freshly brewed coffee and tea.
There were plenty of silent auction prices gifted by generous donors and 50/50 raffle tickets sold but one of the highlights of the party was the presentation to MVA President Theresa Eurell and its Board Members of a $10,000 grant check from the town of East Hampton by Supervisor Scoyoc. One couldn’t have asked for a more perfect night to celebrate Montauk and its honorees. As parting gifts, guests were given a seedling of a Meyer Spruce tree to help make Montauk even greener.
The MVA is Montauk’s oldest non-profit civic organization founded in 1961. The organization is directed by a group of dedicated, concerned volunteers who care for and maintain the quaint village of Montauk. Its mission is to preserve Montauk’s unique beauty by planting and maintaining flower beds, hanging baskets and trees throughout the downtown area and maintaining the teak benches along with Montauk’s Memorial Garden.
The MVA also provides scholarships to local school children who plan to further their education by attending college. This year’s awardees were given to Kylan Vigilan-First Place $3,000, Alexandra Lenehan-Second Place $1,500 and Emily Ryanare-Eight Grade Social Studies Prize $100.
